| Tax Reform | |
There
is no doubt state legislators faced difficult choices as to what
could be cut from the state budget during the past session, however,
the reason those choices were difficult was due to the fact that
elected leaders have been spending too much in recent years. Over the last few years, there has been much focus on tax reform, however, we cannot truly have tax reform until we have spending reform and ultimately that’s why leaders in the General Assembly have failed the taxpayers of our state. |

Several states rely solely on a sales tax to raise revenue, including Florida and Texas (two of the largest economies in the world). A goal of my administration would be to see Georgia join that list of states by pursuing a gradual phase out of the state income tax. We must not use our tax code as a way to persecute the successful nor discourage the less fortunate. That is both shortsighted and immoral. We must encourage growth and prosperity by staying out of the way and allowing all Georgians to pursue their own individual vision of happiness. As Governor, I will use the authority of my office to lower or eliminate the state’s portion of the property tax and push the General Assembly to make it permanent. I will also seek to stabilize the state’s gas tax at a low, stable rate. |
