During a recent interview with Emmy award winning journalist, Maynard Eaton, John Monds and Bill Redpath mused on Mond's 2010 race for Governor.

John Monds may be the new face, if not the future, of The Libertarian Party. He is already the conservative Third Party’s top vote-getter - having persuaded more than a million Georgians to make him their choice for the Public Service Commission last November.
|
| “What the million votes say is that there are opportunities out there for other parties and other candidates that aren’t affiliated with the two major parties,” Monds says during the interview.
“Each race has certain demographics and circumstances that could lead to a positive outcome. Hopefully, I can take what I have learned in the last race and maybe take some of the acknowledgement that there are a million folks out there that were willing to pull the lever for John Monds.”
Monds, a successful and savvy investor, lost his quixotic bid to win a statewide election in his first bid for public office, but his Election Day vote totals stunned the congnescti – pundits, journalists and political experts. Now Monds is hoping to cash-in on his political clout with a rousing run for Georgia governor in 2010.

“He’s got good name identification down there given that a million people voted for him last November,” says Bill Redpath, chairman of the Libertarian Party National Committee. “So it’s definitely a situation where I think he’d make a tremendous candidate for governor. He’s certainly articulate. He has a lot of enthusiasm, and I think it would be a great boon to the state party and the national party.”
“I’m just very appreciative of him recognizing what a role my campaign can play, not only on the state level, but a national Bill Redpath level,” Monds reacted. |
The Libertarian Party is America’s third largest political party, founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political parties – with a focus on freedom, individual liberties and personal responsibility.
“Libertarians today are the only political party in the United States that truly stands for individual liberty and responsibility,” says Redpath. “Individual responsibility goes hand in hand with liberty. Libertarianism is the way to go in terms of maximizing people’s personal freedoms, and also, economic freedoms which is ultimately going to bring about the most widespread prosperity in society.”
Monds, 43, is confidant the Libertarian Party and his gubernatorial candidacy can thrive in Georgia; dismissing critics who see it as an idealistic political pursuit. He sees himself as a new spirit and force within the Party.
“We’re going to draw folks to this campaign and to the Party that may not have given us a serious look in the past,” Monds argues. “I think it is going to come from all different backgrounds, racial groups and genders. This is going to be a great, great time for the Party to grow, and continue to offer a substantial difference between the two majors.”
During his campaign for Public Service Commission [District 1] in 2008, Monds became the first Libertarian to break one million votes in the United States. That’s why Monds and Libertarian Party leaders believe he has political savvy, moxie and electability to make the Party a legitimate player in Georgia politics.
“There are a large number of voters out there, I believe, who aren’t happy with either of the two major parties,” Monds opines. “That’s where I can make a major inroad in this race – those who are disaffected with the two major parties they have supported in the past. Also, I am offering solutions to the problems that we face here in Georgia that really haven’t been offered before. The other major parties have had opportunities to address major issues that we face and have failed at doing so.” |

To fuel his candidacy, the personable Monds has retained the services of The Watkins Group, an Atlanta-based national political strategy firm headed by Vincent Watkins. Hiring Watkins was a move Monds felt was mandatory to catapult his campaign and the Libertarian Party’s profile to the next level.
“The Watkins Group is a firm with nearly 30 years experience in politics and is particularly seasoned in surmounting difficult challenges, so we felt fortunate to get them on board,” Monds explains.
Watkins is equally excited about this rare and rich opportunity to engineer Monds’ campaign, calling it politically significant and substantive. |
“John Monds is the type of campaign we were made to lead,” Watkins says. “This campaign has national implications as John’s bid to become Governor can significantly influence the way voters around the country view and respond to the Libertarian Party and its field of candidates. If Libertarians around the country step up and support John’s campaign, the viability of the Party will be significantly enhanced - - thereby improving the probability of Libertarian candidates everywhere. John Monds received more votes than any other Libertarian candidate in the nation. That’s powerful!” |
